RMC Increases Levies on HCFCs and HFCs June 16, 2017

Effective July 1, Refrigerant Management Canada (RMC) is increasing the environmental levies on the sale of new and reclaimed HCFC and HFC refrigerants sold into the Canadian HVAC/R sector.

The HCFC levy is increasing by $1.00, bringing the levy rate to $4.50 per kilogram. The HFC levy is increasing by $0.50, bringing the rate to $1.00 per kilogram. The levy increases also apply to HCFC and HFC blends sold into the Canadian market.

The RMC board decided on the levy increase in May as a way to ensure there are sufficient funds to handle the expected influx of refrigerants over the coming years.

To date, RMC has safely disposed of more than 3.6 million kilograms of surplus refrigerant waste. The cost of collecting and properly disposing of the refrigerants has been more than $56 million.
